Sounding the Drumbeat: Are You Ready for IPv6?

At Blue Coat Systems, our Chief Scientist Qing Li, a published author of 5 books on systems programming and on IPv6, does not sit in an ivory tower. Instead, he has spent the past 8 years designing and building IPv6 security technologies that enabled Blue Coat to release the industry’s first IPv6 Secure Web Gateway, which received the IPv6 Application Solution Pioneer Award in 2010. His work is also behind Blue Coat’s IPv6 WAN acceleration technologies, another industry’s first. And most recently he produced Blue Coat’s first PacketShaper that is capable of IPv6 application sub classifications.

Today we’re starting a series on IPv6 and why it matters to Federal government agencies.  Primarily it matters because the White House mandated that all agencies transition to the new internet communication protocol by September 30, 2012, which is less than 9 months from now.

Despite the fact that the mandate was issued in 2010, very few agencies have made the transition, meaning that sometime in the near future there’s going to be a flurry of activity as agencies face the not so simple transition process from IPv4 to IPv6.

For those looking for a path through the IPv6 woods, Blue Coat has a complete set of solutions for secure transition to IPv6, which are field proven. In addition, Qing’s book addresses the detailed and complex issues found in an IPV6 network environment including topics such as routing, multicasting, DNS, DHCPv6, mobility, and security.

Leave a comment letting us know what your agency is doing to make the transition to IPv6 and we’ll enter you in the drawing to win a copy of IPv6 Advanced Protocols Implementation.

IPv6 will be great for anyone looking to host multiple sites. It is faster and offers a larger bandwidth so you are guaranteed to have the tools for the extra need of more sites.
