Understanding the Threat Landscape

At the Blue Coat Federal User Group we sat down with Dr. Tim van der Horst, Research at Blue Coat Systems, to discuss new attack vectors. We wanted to know more about attackers and how they used tools to draw in their victims. In this video, Tim outlines the common places where attackers hide out to lure in there prey — similar to how lions hang out at waterholes waiting for the zebras to come to them and how they use tools like search engine poisoning to launch attacks.

Attackers, like lions don’t want to have to hunt their prey, they’d rather wait for the prey to come to them. And the number of online watering holes where attackers hang out continues to grow as social network sites, like Facebook, become an accepted part of work-time culture and as employees use their own devices at work.
